Macro Monday-Male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly
I spent some time with family, housework, and schoolwork this weekend in preparation for my trip down to the St. Augustine rookery next weekend, so I didn't get out for a photo trip. Therefore, this Monday's macro image is pulled from one last year that I hadn't uploaded yet. This male Eastern tiger swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) showed off for a good long while as it fed on buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) flowers last August at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia. The yellow-morph female has more blue between the black border and the yellow wings. Wishing everyone a wonderful new week!

A Beauty! I have not seen as many of these this year as I saw last year. But seeing a lot of different butterflies (ie,Red Admirals) that I didn't see last year.
ReplyDeleteLove this :) Great catch !
ReplyDeleteI have seen just one of them this year ... hope there will show more soon ;)
Absolutely gorgeous! I've just started noticing the Tiger Swallowtails in our area. Beautiful butterfly and terrific capture.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your comments. I've seen a few floating by high or at inopportune times earlier this year here, but certainly not in abundance and not usually when I'm out photographing. Hope to see more soon!
