Macro (Wednesday)-Dragonfly Lovers Look Away!

Today's macro post (sorry for the delay-Wader Wed. will shift to Thursday this week) is hot off the presses (so to speak).  I captured these images yesterday at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach, VA during a day-long shoot.  One trail in the refuge was just filled with yellow garden spiders (Argiope aurantia) and their beautiful webs.  This particular female managed to net a blue dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis) and was busily wrapping it in silk.  Look for more posts about the yellow garden spider and the stabilimenta (web decorations) in their web in the next couple of days.  Enjoy!

  3. Some of these spiders were so big I wouldn't be shocked to see a small bird in there. Thanks all for the kind comments.
