Edge Of Fall - Edge Of Light
Some of my favorite times to photograph are around the edges of things; the edge of a season, the edge of light at the end of the day, transitions. Sometimes peak fall color is too boisterous, too noisy, too crowded for me. I like it when we get to the point that the very last leaves are peak or even just hanging on and the rest have fallen. The compositions become more stark, more emotional, more simplified. This particular patch of leaves was just hanging on to a tree growing on the side of a steep hill in Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Sleepy Hollow, NY, just as the sun sunk below the next line of ridges.
