Hooded Merganser Family

Took a quick, but lovely trip out to a relatively local freshwater marsh at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, VA to celebrate feeling slightly better.  Of course now I'm up way too late, but I haven't posted in a while and I wanted to give you one image before I went to bed.  I'll get the rest processed and post a few more later this week.  This image is of a mother hooded merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) and ducklings bedding down for the night at sunset.  A great way to end the day.

  2. Thanks Kerri and Beverly. It was a nice evening. I should say that the evening ended nicely with seeing/hearing a fledgling Barred Owl and parent(s), but not in a photographable situation...

  3. Ahhh the hooded merganser. This has always been my favorite duck, since I was a kid being dragged birdwatching with you and Dad. I don't know why but I loved them. I cannot remember the last time I actually saw one though. Is the Adirondacks in their range? If it is I might have to go searching! Beautiful photo by the way!
